Ian Somerhalder, Damon Salvatore, The Vampire Diaries

Ian Somerhalder and fiancee Nikki Reed received 2015 Noble Awards for their activism in film and animals rights!

The Vampire Diaries Ian Somerhalder is no stranger to awards when it comes to human and animal rights issues, evidenced by his Ian Somerhalder Foundation. His fiancee Nikki Reed is also familiar with awards for her activism for animals rights. Friday, February 27th, 2015, in Beverly Hills, CA, they both received major honors at the 3rd Annual Noble Awards.

Ian received a trophy on behalf of Showtime’s “Years of Living Dangerously.” The trophy was designed by kids in the internal program as Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, who attended the presentation. He actively participated in the film’s efforts to raise awareness of environmental issues.

Harold Perrineau, his friend and former co-star on LOST, introduced him with the following speech:

He’s demonstrated that depth of character and the values that everybody in this room, I think, really demonstrates — something we should all aspire to. He’s used his star power to raise awareness on issues that matter to him. He started a foundation to draw attention to the plight of animals and our fragile environment. He brought his activism to a larger audience through the medium that he works in. His efforts include working on clean-up with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, filming a series of public service announcements that let the public know how they can help, campaigning for the cause and action-based RYOT network that he started, hosting Al Gore’s climate reality project “24 Hours of Reality” to save the environment, and is now currently making a documentary chronicling the visionary sustainability methods of Allan Savory. Thanks to this good man, many have heard the call to action and have gotten involved.

NikkiAward-250Ian’s fiancee Nikki Reed also received a Noble Award for her activism with ISF on behalf of animals rights and her support of the Wildlife Way Station, a non-profit animal sanctuary located in Sylmar, CA, in the Los Angeles National Forest, north of the San Fernando Valley.

The Wildlife Way Station is a seven day-a-week animal refuge and houses lions, tigers, bobcats, leopards, chimpanzees, bears, foxes, llamas, opossums, foxes, reptiles, wolves, and many birds including birds of prey, just to list a few. Its the largest chimpanzee colony with almost 50 chimps. You can support their efforts by becoming a member, sponsoring an animal, or making a donation.

Nikki also received an ASPCA Compassion Award for her work on behalf of the organization’s L.A. Spay/Neuter Initiatives.

The Noble Awards honors the work of humanitarians who have made positive impacts on our world through their work. Their mission seeks to provide awareness for the organizations and unified efforts of celebrities, philanthropists, media outlets, and everyday citizens who work for social change and catalysts for peace and service. “Every person has the capacity to change the world and affect the lives of those around them, but it takes a truly NOBLE heart to do so.”

Donations are welcome!
