The Originals Recap of the season 1 finale rerun of “From a Cradle to a Grave”!

The Originals season finale of “From a Cradle to a Grave” starts with a happy flashback that shows Hayley rocking in the nursery Klaus created for their baby. She’s writing a letter. Klaus comes in and teases that she’s writing a love letter and asks if its to Jackson or maybe Elijah. Then he kids her and asks if its to him even though he thought he was out of the running a long time ago. They both look really happy. She asks him if he’d like to feel the baby, so he comes and kneels and puts his hand on her belly and feels the baby kick. They both smile those smiles that only happy parents seem to share at special times. Then he leaves her to her letter. Turns out she’s writing a love letter to their daughter.

In reality, Hayley is in the church and in labor with the witches holding her on the altar and preparing to deliver the baby. Genevieve grabs a knife and tells her she’ll make it quick. Klaus staggers in and rips on of their heads off, then Monique throws him up against the wall and pins him there. He and Hayley desperately look at each other, knowing that neither can do anything to stop this carnage.

In the bloody courtyard, Marcel and Cami are trying to help the downed vampires as Davina joins them looking for Klaus and his blood. Josh follows her, looking like he’s about to die. Davina vows to save everybody and asks Marcel where they fought. She goes to the place and sees Klaus’ blood on a car and on the street and starts chanting to collect the blood. Droplets of blood rise and fall into a cup. Josh comes and thinks he’s hallucinating.

As Hayley screams, Genevieve tells her to push. Klaus screams threats at the witches, but they ignore him. Finally the baby is born. A witch cuts the cord. Genevieve holds the baby and tells Klaus he has a healthy baby girl. Hayley asks to hold her baby. Genevieve gives the baby to her to hold. Hayley and Klaus look at each other and smile a defeated smile as Genevieve slits Hayley’s throat. The witches leave with the baby as Hayley lay dead. Monique flips her wrists releasing Klaus and breaking his neck. He falls to the floor unconscious.

After Klaus comes to, he seems to be asleep as he holds a dead Hayley. Elijah arrives, but it’s too late. Klaus tells him she’s dead. As Elijah kneels by them Klaus notices that Elijah was bitten by a werewolf and gives him some of his blood.

At the compound, Marcel and Josh argue about who should get Klaus blood. Davina can’t choose because she loves them both. Finally Marcel takes the cup of blood and gives it to Josh, telling her that Josh is one of his guys and needs it more than he does. Marcel says he’s going to get Klaus but Davina says that he’ll need a weapon. Cami tells them that her Uncle has a whole storeroom of weapons.

At the church Elijah asks what happened and Klaus tells him that he was bested. Elijah flies into a rage that his baby brother, the all powerful Klaus could possibly be bested. Klaus tells him there’s still time to find their baby. They lie Hayley back on the altar and go to the cemetery to find the baby. But the witches have put a spell on it and they start going around in circles. Finally Klaus jumps up on a tombstone and sees hundreds of tombstones in an endless cemetery in all directions, much larger than the cemetery they’re in.

Cami shows Davina and Klaus her Uncle’s secret hiding place. Davina finds a devil’s star and says she’s read about them and wants to know if it can cut. Marcel tells her it can make a thousand cuts.

Klaus and Elijah aren’t having any luck finding the baby. Elijah, extremely distraught, lectures Klaus and tells him this is all his fault. He tells him he never lets anybody in and he let Hayley in and now he’s completed undone. He tells Klaus that he has totally undone him and he starts to cry. Klaus seems a little stunned at seeing big brother Elijah falling apart in front of his eyes. He sits down next to him and puts his hand on his arm and tells him they can still save the baby.

In the church, Hayley startles to life and clutches her throat. With a maniacle and determined look in her eyes, she gets down from the altar and heads out to find her baby.

Genevieve, Monique, and the other witch, are dressed in white. Genevieve takes the sacrificial knife and tells them that she has to prepare. Monique and the other witch takes the baby to the altar where the other sacrifices were done. Genevieve says it’s time.

Davina has Esther’s grimore as Mikael watches and coaches her. She prepares a circle of objects and begins to chant to bring Mikael back to life. The witches in the cemetery are also chanting.

Klaus and Elijah are inside a place with candles as Hayley arrives. They are both stunned, but especially Elijah. He asks her how. She says she’s hungry. Klaus tells them she’s in transition to be a hybrid because the baby’s blood was in her when she died. Hayley says she can feel the baby. She doesn’t care about herself, only finding her baby. They follow her out to the cemetery and she heads right to the baby.

“From a Cradle to a Grave” press release synopsis

MOTHER AND CHILD IN PERIL – As the baby’s due date draws near, (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) embark on a search for Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), while Hayley herself is determined to do whatever it takes to keep her unborn baby safe and away from the witches. Francesca (guest star Peta Sargent) takes a meeting with Oliver (guest star Chase Coleman) and Jackson (guest star Nathan Parsons) to determine the future of the werewolves in New Orleans. In the aftermath of a surprising attack on Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and his vampires at the compound, Davina (Danielle Campbell) and Cami (Leah Pipes) join resources to take down Klaus. Finally, in a desperate move to protect those most important to him, Klaus makes a heartbreaking decision.

Davina successfully brings Mikael back to life and he goes to the compound and feasts on everybody that has an ounce of life left in them. Bloody seconds after the werewolves had their share.

Meanwhile, in the cemetery, Klaus, Hayley, and Elijah find their baby just as the witches are about ready to sacrifice her. The witches have the help as their many ancestors to fight against the Mikaelson trio. They fling Klaus and Elijah every which way as Hayley keeps coming. But she never gets far enough. Klaus throws a spike and spears a witch to the wall, but Monique is determined to kill the baby.

As Monique raises the knife, Marcel shows up with the Devil’s Star and flings it at her, cutting a thousand cuts into her as the Devil’s Star embeds itself into her stomach.

As Hayley, Klaus, and Elijah reach the baby, Marcel is already there and grabs her and takes off.

When Klaus returns to the compound he sees Marcel holding his daughter. He tells Klaus he’s done fighting and he’s sorry. Klaus can kill him if he wants to. Klaus can’t kill Marcel, who is still like a son to him. Since Marcel saved his daughter, Klaus tells him to drink. Together they’ll get revenge on the people who caused the deaths of Marcel’s vamps. Klaus asks him if he can hold his daughter.

As Marcel hands Klaus his baby, Klaus seems to transform into a totally different person. A softer, kinder, more loving hybrid. A loving father. Klaus and Marcel are happy as they watch this beautiful, new supernatural baby on her first day of life. Mikael watches, too, from the shadows, as he holds the White Oak stake.

In the nursery, Klaus gently lays his daughter down in her crib, but he senses somebody is there watching him. Mikael. He leaves the nursery and walks downstairs to the bottom of the compound but doesn’t see anybody.

Davina doesn’t let Mikael get close. She doesn’t want Klaus killed. She just wants to punish him.

Davina drags Mikael to her attic, where she spent 8 months under Marcel’s control. Now she has Mikael under her control, thanks to a bracelet she wears to connect him to her and lets her control him. Mikael isn’t very happy at this unexpected turn of events.

Hayley and Elijah wants answers from Genevieve, whom they have bound up. She reveals that the sacrifice was Esther’s idea. She wanted the baby killed, but Genevieve failed and now the witch ancestors are coming for her. Elijah says he should have known his mother was behind everything. Genevieve starts to bleed from her eyes. She says she’s sorry and doesn’t want to die. Hayley grabs the sacrificial knife and kills Genevieve by stabbing her in the stomach. Hayley tells her she’s not sorry. Not sorry that she killed Genevieve.

Back at the compound, Elijah and Hayley tell Klaus what they learned about Esther. Elijah vows to help Klaus fight, to protect their family. Klaus vows to do what it takes to protect their family. Hayley is upset because she has to drink the blood of her baby in order to live and complete the transition into a hybrid. Hayley suggests sending their baby away while they work on cleaning up the mess they’ve made.

Klaus has a plan and agrees with Hayley. He knows the perfect person who can take care of their child. But first they have to make everybody believe the baby was one of the casualties.

Francesca is having a press conference to cover up the deaths she and her brothers caused. Oliver sees Marcel walking past and follows him to the Voodoo Shop. Inside, he tells Oliver that he’s siding with Klaus and Oliver and his wolves need to leave them alone. Oliver doesn’t believe that Klaus wouldn’t side with the werewolves he helped with the rings. Marcel tells him that Klaus will believe it now that the werewolves killed his baby. He shows Oliver the cardboard box with the dead baby in it and suggests that Oliver use cremation so the stink of the death doesn’t cling to him.

At the memorial wall for the dead, Cami see “Baby Mikaelson” on the wall and goes to express her sorry to Klaus. He tells her it wasn’t her fault. He has demons and they won’t let him alone. Then he tells her they can’t be friends. The only way to keep her safe is to keep her away from him. He says he can’t have anything beautiful in his life, and she’s beautiful. Cami moves closer to kiss him but he stops her. She runs away crying as he stands despondent in the doorway to his balcony in her compound.

Hayley, Elijah, and Klaus are together with their baby one last time. Elijah prinks the baby’s thumb so Hayley can have a drop of her baby’s blood wo she can live and finish her transition into a hybrid.

As Klaus leaves with the baby, Hayley and Elijah go to the memorial to mourn the loss of their baby so everybody will believe that the baby truly died.

On a road outside of NOLA, Klaus holds his daughter as Rebekah drives up to meet him. He tells her he can’t think of anybody more perfect to keep his daughter safe. Then he kisses his baby and tells her that as sure as his blood runs through her veins she will return to him, and he’ll make sure she’ll have a safe place to live and grow up. Rebekah vows to protect her and make her happy and will find a witch to do a cloaking spell to protect them. Maybe she’ll even get a white picket fence. She says she thinks that will be lovely.

Klaus hands Rebekah the baby, and gives her the wooden knight that he carved for her when they were kids. They are both crying. Rebekah asks what the baby’s name is. Klaus says simply, “Hope. Her name is Hope.”
