“A Closer Walk with Thee” press release synopsis

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE – Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) confronts a surprising enemy as she and her unborn baby fall into peril during a celebratory wake to honor a fallen member of the community. In order to save Hayley, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) enlist the help of Genevieve (guest star Elyse Levesque) who struggles to maintain control over Davina (Danielle Campbell) and the other young witches. Cami (Leah Pipes) tells Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) that Francesca (guest star Peta Sargent) is determined to find a mysterious key that may unlock a family secret. Meanwhile, as Klaus suffers from nightmares of his father Mikael (guest star Sebastian Roche), he is forced to examine his troubled relationship with his own adoptive son, Marcel.

At Father Kieran’s funeral, Marcel and Cami talk about the key. He says its something that can be used against the supernaturals.

Father Kieran’s casket is in the carriage in the funeral street procession as Klaus, Elijah, and Hayley walk behind it. The talk about the nightmares. Elijah tries to pull her close but she pushes him away. Hayley goes to Cami and expresses her sorry about Father Kieran’s death. She asks her if she knows anything about Francesca. Suddenly Hayley coughs up blood and Elijah and Klaus come to her aid and take her home.

At the compound, Genevieve tries to help Hayley, but she’s in some type of limbo between the two sides of death. Hayley sees Mikael.

At the cemetery, prayers are being said for Father Kieran. Cami leaves to find Sean’s grave. Marcel goes after her and she tells him that maybe her Uncle hid things in Sean’s grave.

Genevieve tries to bring Hayley back, but it’s not working. Klaus gives her some of his blood, but that’s not working either. In the limbo, Mikael grabs and tries to choke Hayley and she starts to beat Mikael. Hayley knows she’s not dead like Mikael, and Genevieve realizes that Monique is causing this and trying to kill Hayley and the baby.

Hayley stabs Mikael and tells him, “My daughter will have an advantage Klaus never had. She will never ever know you.” Then she returns to the living and tell them about what happened with Mikael. In her bedroom, Klaus comes and check on her. She senses that he really cares, in his own weird way. She tells him she’ll come back, but she doesn’t want him to order her. Then she asks him about what he intends to do with her after the baby is born.

In answer to her question, Klaus asks her to follow him and he shows her the beautiful nursery he’s created for both her and the baby that’s connected to Hayley’s bedroom. He says he wants them both to be co-parents. Then he asks her what his father said. She realizes how kind and loving Klaus can really be and that he really wants to be a good father. In answer to his question, she tells him that his father said nothing that was true. Then Hayley sees the beautiful painting that Klaus did for their baby.

People are still celebrating in the street as Elijah catches up with Genevieve, who tells him Hayley is ok. He thanks her and says that he can’t forgive her for what happened with Rebekah which resulted in her leaving, and then asks her if she can somehow reverse the moon curse on Hayley so she won’t turn after the baby is born.

At the cemetery, Cami and Marcel open Sean’s tomb. She sees something there, but doesn’t mention it to Marcel.

When Genevieve returns to the young witches, she’s pissed at Monique. She starts a spell to connect to the ancestors and says she doesn’t want to kill an innocent baby. Genevieve begins to cry blood. The ancestors beat her so she promises that she’ll do whatever has to be done to do what they want.

Klaus and Elijah are watching as people dance in the street. He tells Elijah that Hayley is coming home, then asks him about Mikael and talks about his demons. Elijah suggests that he talk to Marcel.

Klaus flashes back to when he was younger and sees his father. When a slave is being beaten Marcel goes to try and stop it but his father shoots him. As Marcel is dying, he asks Klaus to turn him. He says he wants to stay with his real family, meaning the Mikaelsons. Klaus turns him.

Back in the present. Klaus stops Marcel as he starts to leave. He tells Marcel how much it hurt when Marcel betrayed him. Marcel says he never failed him, and he intends to keep fighting until he’s dead. Klaus tells him he doesn’t expect anything less.

Hayley watches the street parade from the window of her room in the compound when Elijah comes and tells her he’s never been as frightened in his 1000 years as he was today when he realized she almost died. He starts to leave, but she rushes to him and they kiss.

In the greenhouse, Davina hears Tim’s music and turns, hoping to see him. But instead of Tim it’s Mikael. He says that Tim has moved on and then he reveals to her that he’s Mikael, Klaus’ father. He wants her to do a spell to make him come back to life.

The next episode of The Originals will be the rerun of “The Battle of New Orleans” on September 18th, 2014, at 9/8c, on The CW!
