Recap of The Originals 2×02 episode “Alive & Kicking”!

The Originals episode of “Alive & Kicking” begins with the 1700 flashback, where Kol has killed a bunch of people and Elijah and Klaus are looking for him. All these deaths will alert Mikael to where they are. They need to catch a boat to get out before Mikael comes. Kol tells them to leave him behind, so Klaus daggers him.

Kol, as Kaleb, is enjoying his body and the town. Seeing Davina, he watches her.

At the compound, Elijah follows Hayley’s trail of bodies and finds her bathing. She stands, naked, and tells him that the witches who wanted to kill her baby are nothing more than food to her now. Elijah hands her a towel. She walks away.

Klaus reads “The Art of War” as Elijah expresses his unhappiness with him at not helping Hayley. He says Hayley is fine, but Elijah tells him the mother of his child deserves more than fine.

Across the river, Marcel is giving a rundown of what it’s like to be a vampire when Elijah shows up and offers to make him a deal.

Flashing to 1821, Marcel struggles with a piano piece as Elijah tries to encourage him. Klaus, jealous of Elijah and Marcel’s relationship, undaggers Kol, who immediately begins to feed.

Back to the present, Marcel explains that thanks to Klaus he has to rebuild his community. The wolves have aligned with Cassie because of the rings. Elijah doesn’t want to join Marcel, but he wants his help to find the White Oak Stake. He thinks Davina knows where it is and wants Marcel to talk to her.

As Davina tries to study Esther’s grimoire, Mikael makes her an offer she refuses. She goes to get coffee. Kaleb watches her. Esther knows she has a weapon and Kaleb is supposed to find it.

In the cemetery, the werewolves wait for their rings. Esther is putting a werewolf army together, and when they’re ready they’ll go for Klaus and Elijah.

Klaus and Hayley are looking for her family in the bayou. She says, “I am a mess. I cry all day. I feed all night. All I can think about is how much I miss my daughter.” Klaus tells her, “Do you think you’re alone in that pain?” Hayley, still angry, asks, “Have you even thought about her once.” Softening a bit, but also angry, he tells her, “I have not stopped thinking about her. When it pains me, I seek comfort in the idea of what I would do to those who would harm her.” He points to a jacket for her to get the scent, which she does and he beams with pride.

Elijah, with Marcel, waits for Davina. Elijah flashes back to Klaus undaggering Kol, who then happily killed over 60 people. Elijah says Marcel isn’t safe there anymore, but Klaus insists the boy stays.

Davina is happy to see Marcel and tells him about Kaleb. He asks for the White Oak Stake, then Elijah joins them and says he needs the Stake. She says no. She doesn’t intend to help them. Then she angrily leaves. Now Elijah knows she has the Stake.

When Klaus and Hayley find her pack they discover Oliver is in charge. She tells them she wants to be their leader, but Oliver says he won’t follow her. Klaus beats him up and tells him to show some respect. Hayley is their Queen.

In town, Elijah and Marcel talk about how to get the Stake from Davina. Elijah flashes back to Kol and Marcel watching actors play Hamlet. Hamlet actually kills another actor with a sword. Kol isn’t happy with the actor so he does the twisty on his neck. Elijah is pissed when he finds out Kol is slowly turning Marcel. Kol gets daggered again.

In the attic, Mikael is still trying to persuade her to let him kill Klaus, but she just taunts him with her bracelet that binds him to her.

Klaus is in the cemetery being surrounded by werewolves. He calls for the witch who defies him by making moonlight rings. Cassie comes strolling through the werewolves. “I’m been expecting you, Niklaus!”

“Alive & Kicking” press release synopsis

GUEST STAR NATHANIEL BUZOLIC APPEARS IN FLASHBACKS TO THE 1700s – As tensions between Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) grow, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) steps in and encourages her to regain her position within her werewolf pack. Still under Davina’s (Danielle Campbell) control, Mikael (Sebastian Roche) grows impatient while she attempts to uncover a spell that would protect those closest to her. When Elijah turns to Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) for help in tracking down a vital piece of information, he is forced to remember a time long ago when they were on better terms. Meanwhile, Davina and Kaleb (guest star Daniel Sharman) find themselves in a dangerous situation when unexpected visitors show up and crash their dinner. Finally, Klaus grows suspicious after a meeting with Cassie (guest star Natalie Dreyfuss) doesn’t go as he had planned.

As they sip camomile tea, Cassie gives her condolences for his baby’s death. She wants a balance and hates vampires. Klaus says she’s awfully young to be so ambitious. He says his mother was a monster. He knows somethings not right and stares into Cassie’s eyes. He knows she’s his mother, but Cassie just ignores his suspicions and drinks her tea. As he leaves, she tells him they’ll meet again.

Kaleb and Davina meet at a bar as he woos her. Marcel calls her and she leaves to talk to him. While she’s gone, Vincent comes and tells Kaleb their mother needs the information and if he can’t get it Vincent will get it his way.

Davina still refuses to give Marcel any information. When she goes back to Kaleb, werewolves surround them. She uses magic to subdue one, but she can’t subdue all of them. She summons Mikael who comes to help and starts killing the werewolves. A werewolf knocks her down and the bracelet is knocked off, freeing Mikael. Mikael starts attacking Davina, but Elijah comes and stops him. He realizes it’s Mikael. Mikael starts to stake Elijah. Kaleb gives her bracelet back and she gets control of Mikael. Kaleb just stares at his father. Mikael asks him, “What are you staring at, boy?” Kaleb says, “Nothing.” Mikael doesn’t know that he’s Kol. Davina sends him back to the attic.

At the compound, Elijah, still shocked, tells Klaus their father is back and he has the Stake. Klaus tells him the witch making the rings is their mother. Now the only thing they have to decide is which one to kill first.

In the courtyard, Hayley tells Klaus she brought werewolves home.

Flashing back to the 1800s, Elijah is dressing when Marcel comes in, but Elijah tells him to go away. He know it’s important for Klaus to bond with Marcel, so he’s being mean. Klaus immediately steps up and takes charge of Marcel. At Kol’s coffin, Elijah is explaining to him why he was daggered again. Klaus needs to bond with Marcel, and he can’t do it if Kol is sidetracking him.

Back to the present, Hayley tells Elijah Oliver was a pawn to find out about Cassie. He tells her he’s leaving. Being around werewolves is too much for him. He says she needs to be with her own kind. Like young Marcel, he’s letting Hayley go in the hope that Klaus will grow closer to Hayley like he once did Marcel.

Back with Mama Cassie, Kaleb is pissed that Vincent brought the werewolves. He has a gash on his forehead. He was never marred before. She says she gave the order for the werewolves to attack. Cassie subdues him with magic to make him submit. He’s here because she needs him. She senses he’s hiding something. Kaleb lies and doesn’t mention anything about seeing Mikael, “I was knocked out during the attack. I never saw a thing.”

In the Quarter, Marcel watches Gia play the violin as Elijah joins him. Marcel says Davina is gone, in hiding somewhere. He doesn’t intend to find her until he finds out which team Elijah is on. Marcel does the twisty on Gia’s neck and tells Elijah she’ll wake up a vampire. He’s giving her to him so he can be her mentor. He hopes he’s better with her than he was with children, meaning him when he was a child. Then he leaves.

The next episode of The Originals is “Every Mother’s Son” on Monday, October 20th, on The CW, at 8/7c!
