Nathaniel Buzolic, Kol Mikaelson, The Originals

Spoilers as Nathaniel Buzolic, Kol Mikaelson, returns in The Originals 2×02 “Alive & Kicking” episode!

In The Originals 2×02 episode “Alive & Kicking” we’ll see Kol, Nathaniel Buzolic, in flashbacks to the 1700s. Was he practicing the dark arts with Mama Esther? Or hunting with Papa Mikael?

But the 1700s isn’t the only time period executive producer Michael Narducci has mentioned that we’ll be seeing Kol. According to Michael, in one flashback he’ll be dressed in 20th century clothes. He says they want to “tell a bigger story” of where all the characters were throughout time, as well as what caused them being daggered. “Klaus daggered his siblings for a reason and what was that reason?” Michael asks.

In additional to Nate returning, Michael has said the young Mikaelson children will also return, which means we’ll see more of Aiden Flowers as young Klaus and Perry Cox as young Elijah.

According to Mikael, like the Godfather, flashbacks move the story forward while exploring the past at the same time. So it sounds like we’ll be getting a lot of flashbacks!

Michael on flashbacks

We will get to see those characters as they were originally portrayed or if not those particular actors because they’ll be playing different ages – we’ll see them throughout – younger actors playing Finn, Nathaniel Buzolic playing Kol, and we’re really excited to get into where this family comes from, why they are the way they are, what were their relationships [are] like, not only with their parents but with one another even back in the day and how has that lead them to be divided as they are?

Michael further goes on to say that Kol is “the Loki of our story – mischievous, never knowing where you stand with this guy, what is he up to.” But where does he really stand as far as loyalties and alliances? We’ll get an idea of why Finn is so loyal to Esther, but what about Kol?

Since Esther has put Kol into an extremely charming and handsome British warlock, he’ll be in the perfect position to help her find out what’s up with Davina and what her plans are. She’s a Harvest girl and the most power NOLA witch, so Esther wants to keep an eye on her. Will this be how Esther discovers that Mikael is also back?

With Vincent/Finn (Yusuf Gatewood) as Cami’s college adviser and Kaleb/Kol (Daniel Sharman) as Davina’s love interest, Esther will be able to move forward with her grand scheme, which will be the primary focus of season 2.

While Esther, Finn, and Kol, concentrate on their agenda, Klaus and Hayley will concentrate on their werewolf agenda, while Marcel concentrates on his agenda of rebuilding his vampire community. That leaves Elijah and Rebekah as the last of the pure-blooded Original vampires.

Michael Narducci also revealed that we’ll see more about the origins of the Mikaelsons, including the relationship between Esther and Michael, and between the parents and the children, how and why they left Europe, and what they were like as humans. Sounds like an exciting season, fangsters!
