Claire Holt joins Golden Globe winner David Duchovny as a series regular on the event series “Aquarius”!
What came first for Claire Holt, Rebekah Mikaelson on The Originals? Leaving the series to spend time with her family, or the role of Officer Charmain Tully on Aquarius for NBC? Either way, it looks like her guest appearances on The Originals will be few after the first three episodes of season 2 that they’ve already filmed back in May and June. So, instead of an immortal vampire Claire will be a 1967 mortal cop carrying a badge.
Unlike The Originals, Aquarius is a 13-episode “event series” that bypassed the normal development process and went straight-to-series. It will air during the upcoming season on NBC.
“Aquarius” press release synopsis
In this gripping drama series set in the late 1960s, [two-time Golden Globe Award winner David] Duchovny stars as a Los Angeles police sergeant with a complicated personal life who starts tracking a small-time criminal and budding cult leader seeking out vulnerable women to join his “cause.” The name of that man is Charles Manson. The twists and turns of a complicated undercover operation will lead Duchovny’s character and his young partner to the brink of Manson’s crimes that will eventually lead to the Tate-LaBianca murders in subsequent seasons.
The series will be executive produced by writer John McNamara (“Profit” and “In Plain Sight”), David Duchovny, Melanie Greene, and Marty Adelstein (“Last Man Standing” and “Prison Break”).
Claire will be playing Officer Charmain Tully, described as “a beautiful young female police officer who is trying to be taken seriously in the male-dominated world of the LAPD in 1967, no easy task.” Sounds like she’s gone from one testosterone-filled series to another!
In addition to Claire and Duchovny, who plays LAPD Sergeant Sam Hodiak, the series also stars “Game of Thrones” star Gethin Anthony as Charles Manson, “Friday Night Lights” star Grey Damon as Duchovny’s partner Brian Shafe, a hippie-type who fits in with the Manson clan, and “Bunheads” Emma Dumont as Emma Karn, one of Manson’s followers. Hodiak and Shafe get involved when they trace the missing Emma to Manson, and Shafe goes undercover to find out more about the cult leader.
Fans of The Originals were shocked after “Farewell to Storyville” aired to discover that her exit from New Orleans on the series was also her exit from the series. Afterward she said that she wasn’t done with the Michaelsons or the series, stating, “This show has been so amazing for my career, and I’ve had such unbelievable material, it was just never my intention to be away from home this long. I am simply looking at this as a temporary absence.”
At Comic-Con executive producer Julie Plec said that Claire will be seen “at least once in the first three episodes.” She was featured in the trailer for season 2 narrating a fairy tale to her baby niece Hope, shown in a crib with the little wooden knight on a horse that Klaus carved for Rebekah when they were human children. Since Aquarius is only 13 episodes, let’s hope its shooting schedule will give her some free time to guest on The Originals!
