Daniel Gillies, Elijah Mikaelson, The Originals

The Originals character poster and symbols of Elijah Mikaelson, played by Daniel Gillies!

The Originals Elijah Mikaelson, played by fun loving and handsome Daniel Gillies, has had a rough season 2 so far at the hands of his mother, Esther. Klaus has stood beside him, but what will he do when he finds out his brother killed his first love, Tatia Petrova?

That was quite the revelation in “Red Door” to discover that all these centuries Elijah has been living a lie that his mother created for him. Just clean yourself up! He’s discovering it’s not so easy now that he knows the truth. How many other killings, like the cafe killings when he was waiting for Rebekah and Hope, has he hidden behind that red door so he can continue to be the honorable Elijah? How long will he be able to cope with the vampire he really is?

It’s a great question. I’ll leave it at that.

While the secret of Tatia simmers, the relationship with Hayley appears to be stalled and maybe dead. Will Hayley really give up her feelings for Elijah and marry Jackson for the good of the pack? Has Haylijah died?

Daniel on Hayley and Elijah’s future

Sometimes in the midst of mayhem, wonderful and romantic things can happen, and that’s all I’ll say.

Perhaps while Elijah continues to try and redeem Klaus, Hayley can help redeem Elijah!

With all this mayhem and madness in the Mikaelson family, why has he stayed so loyal to Klaus? Daniel has joked, “I don’t know . . . cocaine?” He reveals he asks this same question. Finally he decided to make it like a disease.

Daniel on Elijah’s “Klaus” disease

[W]ho in their right mind, over the course of a millennium, would support this creature? So I made him like somebody who has a drug addict in the family, somebody who is an enabler. I feel like that’s sort of Elijah, who sort of holds out hope for this small part of him that might be a glorious king. But truthfully, even the most ardent fans of Klaus know that he’s not great king material. He’s going to be a tyrant. No matter what. Even if he has periods of being good, he’s going to be awful pretty soon. That’s kind of why we love him, you know.

Daniel, 38, is a Canadian actor, raised in New Zealand. Although his father is a pediatrician, his mother is a nurse, and his great great great grandfather is plastic surgery pioneer Sir Harold Gillies, he decided to become an actor. He attended the Unitec School of Performing Arts, but nothing much happened until he decided to move to Los Angeles.

Even though he didn’t follow in his family’s footsteps, he plays orthopedic surgeon Dr. Joel Goran on “Saving Hope”! Other roles included Jon on “True Blood” and Jack Miller on “Masters of Horror.”

Daniel wrote, directed, and produced “Broken Kingdom” which also starred his wife Rachael Leigh Cook. Rachael currently stars in “Perception” as FBI Agent Kate Moretti. He and Rachael have been married for 10 years and have a one-year old daughter, Charlotte Easton Gillies!
