Executive producers talk about the mystery behind The CW’s new show The Messengers!
The Messengers are coming to The CW on Friday, April 10, 2015, at 9/8c, but what’s the mystery and what’s the message?
At the recent Television Critics Association the executive producers Trey Callaway and Eoghan O’Donnell talked about how quick it would be before the viewers discover the mystery behind their series, which is a coupling of “Close Encounters” and “The Stand.”

If Close Encounters and The Stand got married in a church and had a baby, it would be The Messengers. Tonally, that’s what we’re after, and that includes all of the mystery that would be a part of that. Having said that, by the end of the pilot, we definitely want our viewers to have a pretty clear idea of what kind of ride they’re in for, and then, that understanding and awareness only develops exponentially with every subsequent episode.
According to Callaway, there will be more information for both the characters and the audience in the second episode when one of the characters will successfully get all five of the completely disparate characters in the series together. O’Donnell adds that all the strands will start to come together, so we’ll see the five characters become The Messengers “as a group” and not just separate individuals.

These are ordinary people who are changed in that moment, but they stay themselves and they still have their own personal problems and they’re still grappling with those issues throughout even as the world might be coming to an end around them.
The Messengers stars Shantel VanSanten as Vera Buckley, Sofia Black-D’Elia as Erin, Joel Courtney as Peter Moore, JD Pardo as Raul Garcia, and Jon Fletcher as Joshua Silburn Jr. Diogo Morgado is “The Man,” the mysterious burnt, or at least grimy, man that appears to be from the crashed alien ship.
The Messengers series synopsis
In the New Mexico desert, scientist Vera Ivanov watches in fascination as a mysterious object plummets to Earth and explodes, sending out a shock wave that briefly stops her heart. But Vera isn’t the only one affected: she’s instantly connected to four other strangers, who also collapse only to miraculously come back to life hours later. This group of strangers might be the only hope for preventing the impending Rapture … or causing it.
Executive producer Eoghan O’Donnell wrote the pilot, “Awakening” on April 10th, 2015, and he and executive producer Trey Callaway wrote the second episode, “Strange Magic” on April 17th, 2015.
