Julie Plec promises multiple big bads as The Originals series begins a new chapter in season 3!

The Originals cast and producers dropped by the Entertainment Weekly Lounge at Comic-Con 2015 to reveal the troubles the Mikaelsons will face in season 3!

After the Mikaelson siblings murdered their parents, again, and their evil witch Aunt Dahlia, things seemed peaceful as Klaus rocked his baby daughter, Hope, to sleep with a new fairy tale and the promise of a new chapter in their lives. But this vampire family will never have a villain-free existence, especially with creator and executive producer Julie Plec and co-executive producer Michael Narducci at the helm of their lives!

According to Julie and Michael, there will be multiple big bads that will be “doubling down” the vampire threat in season 3 of The Originals, which will begin with a four-month jump after the events of the “Ashes to Ashes” season 2 finale.

Rebekah, played by Claire Holt, decided to remain in her witch body, played Maisie Richardson-Sellers, and left town, taking her vampire body with her. Davina, played by Danielle Campbell, is the new regent of the nine covens, and Klaus and his family aren’t exactly among her favorites. Hayley and Jackson are cursed to their wolf form. Elijah has reluctantly returned to Klaus’ side for Hope’s sake, and Freya will be a major factor as she will help Hope cope with her powers.

Season 3 will be chock full of a lot of new stuff according to Michael Narducci, including a new person who will help bring Marcel back to the forefront of the show, especially since Klaus has decided to concentrate on being a father instead of a king. There will also be more about Yusuf Gatewood’s character Vincent, exploring his past and his family. There will also possibly be a little romance. This could be Klaus and Cami, played by Leah Pipes, or maybe another love interest for Elijah or Davina. Claire Holt will also be returning to the series, at least in flashbacks.

Michael Narducci on sire lines and vengeance

We talked a lot about how the Mikaelsons have been around for 1,000 years and somewhere along the way, they probably turned a bunch of people into vampires. Those vampires know that if an Original dies, as we saw with Finn and we saw with Kol, an entire sire line would be wiped off. What perspective do those sired vampires have – all of them, the remaining three sire lines – what do they think about the continued existence of the Mikaelson family? That’s the seed for season 3.

Those first few vampires sired by the Mikaelsons are not too happy, and they’re coming for revenge with an axe to grind according to Julie.

Julie Plec on sired children and grinding axes

The Mikaelsons were able to vanquish their parents and their evil nasty auntie, so now they get to experience what it’s like to be the so-called parents themselves of their first line of sired vampires. The children are coming to town with an axe to grind.

Julie also promises flashbacks to the early years of the Mikaelsons, which will feature Nathaniel Buzolic as Kol. She reveals we’ll be getting a “glimpse of the whole Original family about 10 years after they were turned and see what their lives are like as they’re struggling to adapt.” She said we might even see Finn, who was originally played by Caspar Zafer.

Hayley, played by Phoebe Tonkin, will definitely be seen, since there’s a major custody fight. Julie Plec says, “There is, in fact, a custody fight early on in the season that turns violent.” This will result in the decision about who will be taking care of baby Hope.

Joseph Morgan, who plays Klaus, admits his character is “going to do badly as a single parent. He knows he’s messing it up but at least he’s trying.” He’ll also end up being Cami’s first patient, as she hones her skill as a “therapist-in-training.” As their growing closeness becomes dangerous, Leah Pipes admits “there is an untapped darkness in Cami.”
