There will be some new faces joining Rebekah, Hayley, and Jackson on season 3 of The Originals!

The Originals season 3 will be a whole new chapter, including at least three new faces, removal of Hayley‘s curse, and possibly Claire Holt’s return!

There will be a four month jump when the series returns, which means Hayley, played by Phoebe Tonkin, has been cursed to her werewolf form while Daddy Klaus takes care of baby Hope. While there’s no word on when the curse will be broken, and she’ll get a chance to maybe get even with Klaus for putting it on her, it won’t be broken in the season premiere, so looks like she’ll be howling at the moon for awhile longer.

All of her pack was cursed, including her new husband Jackson, played by Nathan Parsons. But will Jackson return in season 3, or will he have some type of accident and die, either in wolf form or in his human form during the full moon? Entertainment Weekly has revealed that Nathan will return to his General Hospital role during the summer. The return will be a short arc relating to his on-screen father Luke, played by Anthony Geary, departing the soap. Both he and Jonathan Jackson, who plays Lucky, the other on-screen son, are returning to say their farewell to their General Hospital Dad.

Even though Nathan is returning to his old gig for the summer, it doesn’t look like it will affect his werewolf role on The Originals. While Hayley‘s role has been called “fundamentally important” by executive producer Michael Narducci, Jackson’s role may not be. Although he will probably be in part of season 3, there’s a chance he may not survive to see a season 4.

Hayley and Jackson might not get any help from Davina, newly appointed regent for the New Orleans witches, who still has a vendetta against Klaus and the rest of the Mikaelson family, especially after they took away her chance to bring Kol back.

Michael Narducci on the Davina threat

The spirits are going to have access to Davina. They’re going to lend her their power and communicate with her about what’s best for the people and witches of New Orleans. That’s who she’ll be an advocate for, and the Mikaelsons, some would argue, are not the best things in the world for the witches. That’s going to put them at odds, assuming there’s no larger threat coming for which they might have to unite against. There are a lot of different ways this could play out.

Claire Holt, the original Rebekah, returned for the season 2 finale “Ashes to Ashes,” but at the end Freya, played by new series regular Riley Voelkel, gave her sister a choice and she decided to return to her witch body, played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers. Currently Claire is playing Officer Charmain Tully on the NBC event series Aquarius, which was renewed for a second season. When asked if she’d like to return for season 3, she gave a resounding yes.

Claire Holt on a season 3 return

Hell yeah! I’d love to! I’m on another show right now, Aquarius … I would love to be able to do both if possible. Rebekah is so special to me, and anytime I get to go back and visit that world and New Orleans and my family there, I’m on that plane ready to go.

While old faces are returning, three new faces have been announced. The first is a sexy vampire named Aurora, “capable of turning on a dime and unleashing her dark side.” The second is a handsome, calculating vampire named Lucien, coming to New Orleans “with a personal vendetta against the Mikaelsons.” Perhaps Lucien is “the first vampire ever sired by the Mikaelsons a thousand years ago,” a character mentioned in the season 3 synopsis. The third new face is a handsome human lawman named Will Kinney, who is determined to “bring wrongdoers to justice.” He may get a surprise when he realizes they could be fanged wrongdoers. Although the show is on another network, it would be interesting to have crossovers from NCIS: New Orleans, which stars Scott Bakula. Maybe Will Kinney will be the closest we’ll get.
