Finn’s revenge continues as Kol dies from the curse he put on him in The Originals 2×14 “I Love You, Goodbye” episode!
In The Originals 2×14 “I Love You, Goodbye” we needed lots of Kleenex. First for tears of joy at Hayley and Jackson’s wedding, then at the end as Kol died surrounded in love with his family. Finally realizing he’s always been a part of “always and forever”!
Is Kol really gone? Again? How will Davina handle her second heartbreaking death? This time a Mikaelson. Can Finn’s revenge be stopped, now that Freya is helping him?
Executive producer Michael Narducci sheds some light, and maybe a tear or two, about Kol and the result of his death.
Michael confesses he was as bummed about Kol’s death as the rest of us, but it had to be done to show what danger Finn is and what he was willing and capable of doing in his revenge. Somebody had to suffer to raise the stakes. Kol went from manipulative and selfish to heroic when he helped Davina save her friends by saving Klaus. There was also real affection and even love between him and Davina as they became powerful allies. Unfortunately, this led to his death when Finn realized this.
Rebekah promised she’d bring him back, so will we see Kol, and Daniel Sharman, again? According to Michael, Rebekah and Davina will have their own opinions of his death. While witches have died and returned, we’ll still see flashbacks of Kol, so he’ll still be around. No doubt played by Nathaniel Buzolic, the original Kol. As Michael says, “In those ways, fans of Kol can rest assured that his story on The Originals is long from finished.”
As for Davina, Kol is the second loved one she’s lost. First Tim, now Kol. Michael says she’ll have a definite perspective on this heartbreaking loss and will try to take charge and do something with the spirits of her witch ancestors. Perhaps she’ll be able to resurrect him like she did Mikael.
As the season moves forward, Davina may be faced with having to choose between saving the dead or trying to protect the living as new and dangerous things, like Dahlia, come to New Orleans. Since Kol was a Mikaelson, and she saw how much Klaus really loved his brother, will she decide to stand with him against Dahlia and especially Finn, who cursed Kol?
With the death scene, Michael revealed the writers felt it was a great journey this season for Kol, branching out and making new connections, especially with Klaus and Rebekah. They wanted to bring some type of closure.
Michael Narducci on Kol’s death
[F]or him to just die on his own, and to not have that connection to family there, that wouldn’t have brought closure. Kol always wanted to be included in that “always and forever” pact. We wanted to pay that off by having everyone there with him on his death bed.
