Sebastian Roche, Mikael Mikaelson, The Originals

Sebastian Roche, Papa Mikael, dishes some spoilers about his return to season 2 of The Originals!

Sebastian Roche is sensitive, suave, sophisticated, and romantic! Perhaps this is why he makes such a delightfully despicable villain, like Mikael Mikaelson on The Originals!

Daddy Mikael returned to the land of the living at the end of The Originals season 1, thanks to Davina. But the little witch brought him back tied to her supernatural strings. Even though this ancient vampire hunter has vowed to kill his children for good, it will be under Davina’s control as to how, when, and even if, he completes his vengeful thousand year promise.

So what does Sebastian say about all this and about returning in season 2 of The Originals? Since his wife Esther and son Finn (?) or KOL (?) have also returned, thanks to the death of Genevieve, played by Elyse Levesque, is Papa Mikael aware of their return, and if so does he plan on trying to join them in order to destroy their family?

Turns out that he wasn’t even sure whether he would be coming back. But seeing as how he’s Papa Original, he kind of had a hint. The Papa is filled with rage and being imprisoned on The Other Side didn’t diminish it or his hatred of Klaus for killing his wife and the mother of his children, Esther.

Sebastian on returning for season 2

When you have Originals in the title and you’re Papa Original, I knew that eventually I was going to pop my head in. The first five episodes are going to be very intense and it’s going to be quite an epic season, there’s no question about it. We’re in store for some amazing confrontations between Mikael and his sons.

Mikael has this thousand-year-old rage and desire for revenge for his son. There are going to be some different aspects this time around but that desire for revenge will be there still. You’ll see different layers to the character through flashbacks, and we’ll see the history of some of the other characters of our family as well as others like Hayley [Phoebe Tonkin] and Cami [Leah Pipes] and Davina.

The reference to other family members may include Kol, played by Nathaniel Buzolic, who is scheduled to return in a flashback in 2×02 “Alive and Kicking”!

Since Davina prevented Mikael from killing Klaus and Hope in the season 1 finale, you would think that Papa Mikael has some revenge in store for the little witch, but Sebastian says their relationship will be more of a teacher/pupil relationship.

Sebastian on Papa Mikael’s relationship with Davina

Actually, there are moments where you’ll see that Mikael and Davina have this almost teacher/pupil relationship, even though Mikael is rough around the edges in those terms, but he doesn’t mind her for being brave enough to stand up to him. Because nobody stands up to Mikael so anyone who does gets more credit in his eyes. That relationship is going to be an interesting one to watch.

Speaking of Esther, Sebastian is excited to show the relationship between Mikael and Esther, who haven’t seen each other for 1000 years. Talk about a long separation! Of course, first Papa Mikael has to discover that she’s come back, although she may not look like the woman he fell in love with. No word on when and if Alice Evans, who played her on The Vampire Diaries, will return in flashbacks.

Sebastian on his reunion with Esther

He doesn’t know Esther returned too. I can’t wait until they meet and find out they’ve both returned. It will be quite interesting when Mikael finds out that he’s surrounded by his entire family again. The emotional ramifications of that encounter will be fascinating. We don’t know if she’s going to come back as who he knew 1,000 years ago, but she’s still the embodiment of his wife. She was someone that he loved deeply and she was torn away from him. Then he took the blame for her death, so of course it’s going to be very emotional.

I don’t know if this will happen, but I’d really love to see the whole Original family meet, together, in a mea culpa session in modern times. And I would be excited not to see me die! For a whole season! I tend to die in everything I do so I’d like to survive this time.

We’d like to see him survive, too. It would be great if Papa Mikael and Klaus could bury the stake, but not in each other, and join forces to take down the Guerrera werewolves and take back their city.

Sebastian as Papa Mikael

Speaking of cheating death, Sebastian is also trying to do that in the blockbuster film “A Walk Among the Tombstones,” starring Liam Neeson. Unlike his roles on The Originals, Supernatural, and Fringe, this role is unlike anything he’s done before.

Sebastian on his “Tombstone” role

It’s a very New York, psychological, noir film about these two psychopath serial killers who target drug dealers’ loved ones in order to kidnap and get money as quickly as possible since they always have money laying around and they wouldn’t go to the cops for help. I play one of these drug dealers, a Russian gangster named Yuri Landau, and my daughter has been kidnapped.

It’s quite an interesting role because I play the part of a bad guy but in reality, this guy is in a terribly human situation. Subsequently, he’s regarded as a good guy, even though he’s this badass drug dealer. The duality of the character is what attracted me to the role.

Sebastian as Yuri in “A Walk Among the Tombstones”

Yuri enlists Liam Neeson’s character, Matt Scudder, a recovering alcoholic ex-cop, to find and help save his daughter. He says he loved working with Liam.

Sebastian on working with Liam Neeson

Liam is a genuine movie star. The one thing about Liam Neeson is that he truly is a prince of a man. He’s very humble, down to earth, approachable and a really lovely man. He deserves to be where he is because he’s not only brilliantly talented but he is just a kind, respectful person.

Check out “A Walk Among the Tombstones” in theaters now, and mark your calendars for The Originals season 2 premiere on Monday, October 6th, 2014, on The CW!
