“Mommie Dearest” press release synopsis

SECRETS FROM THE PAST — In order to get through to Lily (guest star Annie Wersching) about Julian’s (guest star Todd Lasance) manipulating ways, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) confront their mother with painful memories from their childhood. However, when Lily reveals a dark secret she’s been harboring for over 160 years, Stefan and Damon are left questioning everything they’ve ever known about their family. Determined to prove himself to Lily, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) comes face-to-face with Julian and challenges him to a duel, but an unexpected twist threatens to complicate things. Elsewhere, Matt (Zach Roerig) finds himself in the middle of a deepening mystery involving the residents of Mystic Falls, and Caroline’s (Candice King) world is turned upside down when Valerie (guest star Elizabeth Blackmore) reveals some life-changing news to her. Kat Graham and Matt Davis also stars.

In the woods, Enzo and Julian are still battling. Enzo shows Julian the little sword he found in Oscar’s car. Julian throws dirt in Enzo’s eyes and then disappears.

At the Grille, Caroline is finishing up with the compelled people. Matt sees Caroline looking in a window at her reflection. Asks her to talk, then Bo shows up. He isn’t happy about Valerie undoing Julian’s work. Valerie saves Caroline and then hides them.

In the woods, Enzo is searching for Julian. Julian is however, very fast. At the Lockwood home, Stefan is helping Lily clean up her wounds. Lily tells Stefan that she’s the one who stole their fathers money. She was saving money up so that they could run away. She has a flashback, to that Thanksgiving day. She’s looking for the money she hid. Her lousy husband already found the train tickets. He beats her, and warns her to never try that again.

In present time, she tells Stefan she just wanted to protect them. He never manipulated her, she was just protecting her children. Meanwhile, Julian gets the upperhand on Enzo. Damon shows up and saves Enzo. Damon then kills Julian.

Ric is in his office, drinking. He’s so lost right now. Bonnie shows up and gives him some company. She’s looking through a book and finds out that the sword won’t kill Julian. Only if the blade has the stone inside of it. Enzo is upset, he would never want to kill Lily. Julian wakes up then stabs Damon.

Valerie and Caroline get out okay and Valerie is worried about the babies. Caroline calls a sort of truce with Valerie and wants her honesty. Apparently Valerie used the same spell to save her and Stefan’s baby. However, she wasn’t strong enough to save the baby. Caroline finally understands that Valerie and Stefan had a baby together.

Lily shows up to stop Julian and Damon fighting. Stefan is disappointed in Damon. Bonnie gets a call from Matt and he’s aggravated. Enzo shows up at the bar where Bonnie is, he passes her a drink. Bonnie tells Enzo he’s better off without Lily.

Stefan and Damon get home, they’re arguing. Damon is hurt and angry with Lily for abandoning them. Stefan listens as Damon vents about his real reasoning for hating Lily, her leaving them.

At home, Lily is starting to question Julian. Julian acts like it’s no big deal that he and Enzo were sword fighting. Lily asks about the baby and Julian lies. Lily listens to him and she is very hard to read. He then sweet talks her. She gives in to him, but her eyes doesn’t seem like she believes him. She has a flashback to the Thanksgiving, the husband comes to apologize. She gives him the same look that she just gave Julian. It’s her routine. She now sees that the boys were right.

Caroline goes to the hospital, she’s getting an ultrasound. Ric is of course there with her. The ultrasound tech doesn’t hear a heartbeat or see any babies in her uterus. Valerie shows up, she does a spell to un-hide the babies. She is pregnant and there are two of them in there.

Lily goes to visit Damon and Stefan. He allows her in and she tells them they were right about Julian. She isn’t going to let Julian hurt them, it’s time to kill him.
