Joseph Morgan, Klaus Mikaelson, The Originals

Will Klaus’ deception backfire on him in The Originals season 2 finale 2×22 “Ashes to Ashes”?

In The Originals season 2 finale 2×22 “Ashes to Ashes” Klaus’ deception is revealed but will his family ever forgive him if his plan fails and they lose baby Hope?

By helping Dahlia, has Klaus destroyed his relationship with his family? Especially Elijah after he made Gia take her daylight ring off, resulting in her burning alive? Then Rebekah killed herself so she could return to her original body.

According to executive producer Michael Narducci, Klaus has his reasons for the decisions he made, but he also said there will be “long-term repercussions, particularly in terms of the relationship between Klaus and Elijah and between Klaus and Marcel.” As for Gia, he said there were three reasons for her murder:

1. Klaus had to make the betrayal of his family convincing so Dahlia would believe he could never go back. Because she believed this, she was willing to make the new deal of using him to channel power instead of Hope.

2. Klaus knew Dahlia could kill an Original, so he had to goad Elijah with Gia’s death so he could take him down. This would prevent Dahlia from killing him, and convince her he was going against his family.

3. Klaus also wanted to get even with Elijah for daggering him. According to Michael, “Because of who Klaus is, I think everything kind of added up to do this terrible thing, which was awful and it was something that we debated in the writers’ room quite a bit. And it was painful to write, and it was painful to see shot, and it was painful to watch … on TV. But I think it absolutely was true to who Klaus was.”

Michael also hinted that we haven’t seen the last of Eva Sinclair, aka Rebekah Mikaelson, played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers, “There’s a lot of interesting ways stories twist and turn, so I just look forward to everybody seeing the finale.”

With Claire Holt back as Rebekah, she’s not as easily killed, which is why Klaus wanted her back as a vampire to make sure she was safe and “nothing happened to her.” Also, if he wants to dagger Rebekah, he can’t do it if she is in Eva Sinclair’s body.

Now that Davina is regent and has newfound power, she can focus on resurrecting Kol, who could be another ally in Klaus’ battle against Dahlia. Since she’s now the leader of the nine covens, she can also convince them that Dahlia “is a bad thing even just for the witches of New Orleans.” Perhaps she can also resurrect others to help Klaus fight Dahlia

Cami showing up was an unexpected gift to Klaus’ plan. If she hadn’t been there he would have just followed his plan and hoped it worked. Instead, he used Cami to get information to Elijah about how to kill Dahlia. Since he betrayed her trust and bit her, this is something he’ll have to answer to and something she’ll have to deal with. According to Michael, “The first thing that she will have to do next episode is react to his willingness to hurt her, to hurt Elijah, to do all these terrible things in order to create this rouse. So, that will be the first step.”
