Is There a Supergirl Future for The Originals Claire Holt?

The Originals Claire Holt is one of many testing for the lead role in CBS’s “Supergirl” series!

Claire Holt has been a busy girl since taking a break from her role of Rebekah on The Originals, exiting after the “Farewell to Storyville” episode.

Claire is one of the twenty-something actresses who have tested for the lead role of Kara Zor-El, AKA Kara Danvers, in the CBS comic-book adaptation of “Supergirl.” The one-hour drama on CBS follows Kara Zor-El, born on Krypton, who escaped its destruction with her famous cousin, Superman. Since coming to Earth, she and her cousin hid their powers, but now she’s 24 and has decided to embrace her super powers and become the hero she was meant to be.

Gerg Berlanti, executive producer for “Arrow,” “The Flash,” and “The Tomorrow People” on The CW as well as “The Mysteries of Laura” on NBC, Ali Adler (“Chuck”), and Sarah Schechter (“Pan”) are executive producers for the series, which is expected to air in 2015. Berlanti Productons, with Warner Bros. Television, if producing the project.

Michael Narducci on Claire’s possible return

There’s absolutely the possibility she would return. We definitely want to continue to use Claire. We absolutely will use her in flashbacks in the way we’ve continued to use Nathaniel Buzolic in flashbacks, even though in the present day, Kol is in another body.

Claire Holt’s Rebekah is lying unconscious in a coffin somewhere, so it will become part of the storyline: How does she free herself from this trap? Once she does free herself, why might she choose to stay in that body, and why might she immediately want to get out of that body? Who was this person prior to Rebekah using the body as a vessel? Will the past history of that vessel have an impact on Rebekah? All of those things are story points we want to play. But I definitely don’t think — or hope — we’ve seen the last of Claire Holt.

In addition to continued guest appearances on The Originals, Claire is also co-starring as Officer Charmain Tully on NBC’s 13-episode event series “Aquarius,” starring David Duchovny, set in the 1960’s about an LA police sergeant tracking a small-time criminal and cult leader who is the infamous Charles Manson.

Although she’s no longer a regular on The Originals, which frees up her time to be the lead in “Supergirl,” a source at The Hollywood Report reports she isn’t going to get the part. Since the series would be a major time commitment, CBS may be looking for somebody with more free time and without a possible clash of schedules. The producers may also be looking for an actress who is more of a newcomer.

While this may not be good news for Claire, it’s hopeful news for fans that Rebekah will show up more frequently on The Originals, and may even return at some point as a series regular again.
