Daniel Gillies continues his role of Elijah Mikaelson in the new series The Originals!
It’s official as of January 22nd, 2013, that Daniel Gillies will continue giving life (or is it death!) to Elijah Mikaelson on the new The Originals series!
Elijah Mikaelson, the second-born son of the Original vampires, burst upon the scene on The Vampire Diaries. When Finn died, he became the eldest and therefore oldest of the Original vampires magically created by his mother, Esther.
Elijah has retained his human qualities of being honorable and moral, as well as compassionate, qualities that were magnified and enhanced when he became a vampire. He believes in honor and loyalty, and always keeps his word. If he says he’s going to do something, he always does. Out of all the original vampires, he’s the most human of them all. He only kills when absolutely necessary or if it suits his needs.
Extremely intelligent, Elijah is never rash but plans carefully and methodically before doing what he feels necessary to get what he wants. While some may consider him manipulative, this unpredictability makes him dangerous and difficult for some people to trust. But the most important thing for Elijah is his family.
After Esther died, Elijah and siblings Rebekah and Klaus swore a pact to stick together always and forever. Elijah has helped Klaus release the werewolf side and stayed with him when Alaric was hunting them. It doesn’t matter what Klaus does, he’ll always be Elijah’s brother no matter what. As a quote from TVD says, “Mother made us vampires. She didn’t make us monsters, we did that to ourselves.”
When Elijah arrived on TVD the stakes were heightened, increasing danger to Elena. Elijah was looking for the Petrova doppelgänger, and until Damon and Stefan rescued Elena and staked him he thought he finally had her. However, being an original vampire, he revived from the stake and pulled it out!
He used a locator spell to find Elena, but made a deal to let her and Damon live. Damon can protect her from Klaus who intends to use her doppelganger blood to create more hybrids like himself. After meeting Aunt Jenna, who invites him in, he promises to keep all of them safe and wants her help to kill Klaus.
Daniel is from Canadian, but grew up in New Zealand. His first acting came in 1998 playing a medic in “A Soldier’s Sweetheart.” His roles include John Jameson in “Spider-Man 2” and appeared in “The Sensation of Sight” movie with Ian Somerhalder and David Strathairn. His other TV roles include HBO’s “True Blood,” “The Glades,” and “NCIS.” He’s also done theater with over twenty plays including classics as “Long Day’s Journey Into Night,” “Julius Caesar,” and “The Judas Kiss.” He’s also the lead in the Canadian series “Saving Hope” playing Joel Goran. He says this role won’t interfere with being Elijah in The Originals. Daniel also wrote and directed an independent film “Broken Kingdom” in 2012 which also starred his wife, Rachael Leigh-Cook!
